Hi from orchid40

Post  orchid40 on Thu Sep 25, 2008 1:17 pm

Hello all, I've been reading this forum for ages and have finally got around to registering!
Many of you know me from other forums and it's good to catch up with you here Smile
For those I haven't met here's a bit of background info.
I've been seriously into gardening for about 2 1/2 years, after moving into a house with a boring garden that needed revamping. The soil here is rubbish, sand and limestone, so I've been building it up or as in the case of my rose beds, replacing it.
I make my own compost and have 2 worm farms.
I'm a mad rose collector and am totally obsessed by them, but I know I'm not alone! I built 2 rose beds and have many in containers. I also have a lot of other perennials and have quite a few Fuchsias and Cymbidiums. I'm just getting into Irises and Peonies.
I grow a lot of our vegetables which I love doing. This year I'm trying out potatoes in containers, the results will be interesting, and I'm increasing my strawberry plant numbers.
We have several fruit trees - plums, cherry, fig, pears, nectarine, lemons and lime, mulberry, and a baby mandarin. I've got a few guava bushes but no fruit yet.
Anyway, here's my blog address for more info,

And from me. I have seen you round. but it doesn;t hurt to refresh details. I'm "The iris nutter" and grow just about any type of iris you could care to name. I am also big on fruit and veg, and I'm trying to plant a lot more veg this year, as we have more tank water, and I would rather be eathing my own home grown organic produce than supermarket poisons.
Bearded irises should enjoy your light soil and limestone! Are you in or near Adelaide? I know they have that type of soil there.
Cheers, Jan

Near Tempo Two at Pearcedale? They are sandy with limestone too. They are the big iris nursery.
