lemon tree with sooty mould

Post  lorraine on Wed Jul 16, 2008 11:15 am

hi
our lemon tree is virtually covered with sooty mould
yes I know what causes it plus it was pretty stressed last year,so that didnt help ,
it is a good bearer and we have cut it back quite a few times as its about 8 foot tall again so will need to be done again soon , last time we cut it back we cut at least 3-4 feet off it

so if I spray it will it make the lemons unuseable , or should I pick what I need first
then cut it back hard "again"

it is loaded with fruit , its like a machine it just never stops and I try to give as much away as I can

white oil is best to use for scale ,sooty mould etc isnt it
also does anyone have a home made recipe for it
thanks in advance

To 500 ml water add 2 tbsp canola or sunflower oil and 4 drops dishwashing liquid. Pour into a spray bottle. Shake before using. This is a really cheap white oil. I have even used up used oil this way. The dishwashing liquid makes it stick to the leaves until the rain w3ashes it off. Be sure to spray the whole tree!
