Planned activities

Post  Raymondo on Tue Jul 15, 2008 2:17 pm

Here are some of the activities I have planned, along with why I've chosen the dates given. If you have any comments please don't hestitate as I'm keen to learn.
Thu 24th Jul - Transplant last of the onions. This is a 'leaf' day, good for onions, on a descending moon, to help with root establishment.
Mon 28th Jul - take blueberry cuttings. This is a 'root' day on a descending moon. This will hopefully really encourage root growth.
I will be creating a number of new garden beds over the next few months. When, in terms of moon phase and presiding element, is it favourable for carrying out such activities? I will most likely be using a variant of no-dig methods - fork open soil, add plenty of gypsum and manure, cover with thick layer of newspaper, top off with mulch.

Hi Ray,

Digging, forking, tilling or ploughing of land should be done during the last quarter through to new moon but it's recommended not to work the soil when the moon is in water. Water moon is a a good time to apply manure and fertilisers. So this gives an approximate 7 days period every month to prepare the soil.

I personally try to work the beds when the moon is in fire or air but that my preference, no real logic behind it, beyond the soil seems to be more loose then and the weeds and critters exposed seem to die off better. Worms will often rise closer to the surface when the moon is in water too, so best to avoid chopping them up!

Declination (Ascending/ Descending) doesn't seem important. This month LQ starts on 26th in Fire, followed by 2 days in Earth then two in Air. Perigee occurs in Air, and I'd say they would be really good days because it's a close Pg so if its not too windy, good days. This is followed by a watery moon, on 31st and 1st August when you could spread manure, but there's a solar eclipse on the 1st, so don't do any planting.

I'll be giving my potato bed another tilling over this period and will put manure etc in the trenches over 31st and 1st.

The dates you've chosen are excellent days. You're getting good at this!

Thanks for keeping up the learned discussions. I must admit I haven't made much progress, as I get sidetracked with other stuff (work, for example). I have learned a few things, though. Smile

So a big hurrahhh to everybody and thanks to Blossom for the patience. Smile
