Supposed to be very tasty - size of an apple - good flavour. Anyone grow this or know anything about it ?

No but I'm interested. Does it grow on a small plant and does it have a decent amount of flesh? I find the golden nuggets a bit lacking in flesh, but love butternuts.
Cheers, Jan

Pic here - http://www.foodsubs.com/Squashsum.html - took a bit of digging - does look a bit like a flattened granny smith. Seems you can buy it frozen or even tinned - maybe not in Australia though.

All I've been able to find out so far is they have good texture and keep their shape. One Indian curry recipe said to cut in four. It's an annual vine, productive and vigorous- seeds are edible - you roast them I suppose - 70 days to bear.

Can cook it any which way - roast, stir fry, steam, stew - lots of curry recipes for it.

Sounds like it would be worth trying - now where do we get some seeds Question

Finally found an Indian food blog with a great description - pics - recipes of course. Looks first class and here is how the blogger describes it.

"It has sweet taste with a light papaya scent" - sounds like as good a reason as any to find some seeds Smile

It does sound interesting. A friend here, Adam, who some of you know or know of, is off to India for 3 months in a few weeks for his annual visit. I'll get him on the case of tracking down some seeds. I checked with AQIS and they are an allowed import.

And that blog ... I could spend hours trawling through it. Great recipes. Chole for dinner tonight!
