Cleaning windows

Post by robbin on Thu Jun 19, 2008 10:21 am

I hate cleaning windows, but like clean windows.

This mix makes it easier than anything else I've ever tried, and gives really good results.

Equal parts metho, kero, water and cloudy ammonia. In a spray bottle, shake before use. Spray, then polish off with a soft rag. Recently had to clean windows I don't think had been done in over 10 years. Had to do each side twice, but they sparkled when I'd finished.

I cleaned one of mine and now I get blinded when the sun hits the hothouse in the afternoon. We are close to the ocean so have a constant coating of salt so they only get a hosing when there's been easterly weather and we can't see out! I tried to take a pic of a New Holland Honey Eater having a nectar feed in my Camellia and all that came out was the dirt on the window.....................

Our north facing windows are designed to let the winter sun in, and be our major heat source. Need to be clean enough to let those beams shine through.

I just wipe over with a microfibre cloth and water. When perfectly dry I sometimes give them another wipe over with an old nappy to get any leftover film off - if I'm up for it - takes a minute - any longer and I'd die of boredom LOL - too many windows/glass doors in this house Smile
Take care of our planet - it's the only one with chocolate!

I got the following window cleaning mix from the hairdresser... ever noticed their highly polished mirrors...which show every blemish that you have?
1/2 Metho to 1/2 water, mist then wipe with paper towel......the paper towel means no lint. Also good on fridges and washing machines etc.
Sorry, Robbin... I didn't mean to hijack your thread.

To my mind that's no hijack, not even a real 'thread swerve'. Still on topic. Smile

Cheers, Penny.
